Wa·ter

As my birthday was swiftly approaching, I kept saying to myself "I want to do something important, some form of community service, where I can give back and begin something new". For some reason, I really didn't want the focus on me.  I wanted to make my birthday count. I wanted it to matter.

Then the Lord intervened.

Coincidentally, I'm sitting at home on Facebook (of course) and I come across video of Will & Jada's Birthday Celebration.

~insert Aha moment here~

I was hype! As if I came up with the idea myself! I honestly believe that this is the best thing that one can do to make an impact on an occasion that is normally devoted to the celebration of self.  This couldn't have gotten any better.

Well it did.
It turns out that my birthday is special after all (hate to say I told you so!) blogactionday.change.org is responsible for uniting bloggers from all around the world to talk about the same cause on the same day.  How cool is that? On top of that, it occurs EVERY year on October 15!

While browsing the site, I began thinking to myself how much I actually take the access of water for granted. I mean really think about it...

If I wanted to take a shower right now, at this very moment, I would simply walk ten steps over to the bathroom, put a shower cap (gotta protect the hair, you know ;-) and hop right in the bathtub.

Easy right?

Not the case for my cousins living below poverty level in Haiti.  They would have to walk with buckets of water on top of their heads in the scorching sun with sweat trickling down their face. Imagine that.

So this year, I'm giving my birthday up.

I'm turning 22 years old, & I am asking for you to support my campaign, Miss Dosso's 22 Charity: Water Page by giving $22 or more to a great cause. My birthday wish this year is not for more gifts I don't need; it's to give clean and safe drinking water to some of the billion living without it. I want to make my birthday matter this year.

Please join me.
