"The Courage" | Mohan Bell

To wake up
    One morning and
    Actually arise—get up—
Pull away the curtains.
Sunshine in again.

Courage to cry again
Courage to laugh again
To be silent
And to shout.

Courage to fight, yes
    Liberating what needs to be
            Liberated.
But courage…to…turn…walk away
To not liberate what does not need
To be liberated.

Courage to remember, yes
But courage
To forgive
…………………. To forgive these unshuttered remembrances.

Courage to heed the truth
You had intellectualized
        Philosophized
Allow that truth
To become habits……reality
Let it
    Flow
        Amongst the blood
            To the muscles
And prompt
        Movement.
Courage to believe what you know is truth.

Courage to deny what
The body, the flesh desires
Its cry for untruth. Desires
Pride. Courage to say no.

Courage to pull down
The maps
Off the wall.
Put away the thumb taks, pencils
Revenge is not needed.
Courage.
To become
What you are being shaped into
Molded.

To stand ……. alone
When the truth is rejected

Courage to join when
Truth is celebrated, heeded.

To be rejected
Courage to be accepted.
To say goodbye to some
To say hello to others.

Courage to give up and pursue
Let go. Let God.
Courage to die—put off the old words,
          Habits, pursuits—
To live.

Courage
Courage
To mourn the past
The what happened
Weeping.
But courage,
The courage to wake
One morning
Rising from beneath the black sheets
Opening the windows
Letting the sunshine in
Falling to your knees in surrender
Prayer
Courage
Courage
Courage to become HIS creation
            Again.
